How to get a Vietnam work permit for yoga teachers?

The process under Decree 219/2025/ND-CP has 3 main steps. This is much shorter than the old 4-step process.

Step 1. Post a job for Vietnamese workers

How long it takes: At least 5 working days before you send your work permit papers (this used to be 15 days under the old rules)

Where to post: Put your job ad online at:

  • National Public Service Portal: dichvucong.gov.vn
  • OR your province’s Employment Service Center website

What to include:

  • Job title and position
  • Detailed job description
  • How many people you need
  • What education and experience they need
  • Salary, work hours, and location

After posting the ad, if you can’t find a suitable Vietnamese person, move to the next step.

Step 2. Send your work permit application (includes explaining why you need a foreign worker)

When to send: Between 60 days and 10 days before your yoga teacher plans to start working

Where to send: National Public Service Portal, procedure code: 194248 or 9151

How to send: Everything goes online through Form 03, which includes both explaining why you need a foreign worker and asking for the work permit

How long it takes: 10 working days after the office receives complete and correct papers

Important change: Decree 219/2025/ND-CP now puts the explanation and work permit request into one form. Before, you had to do these separately.

Step 3. Get your result

How you get it: Results come back online through the National Public Service Portal or by postal service

How long it’s valid: Up to 2 years, based on your work contract, work assignment letter, or business license

If they say no: The office will send you a letter explaining why within 3 working days

After getting your work permit, the yoga teacher can start working legally in Vietnam and can also get other documents like a temporary residence card.

Important things to know about Vietnam yoga teacher work permits

Based on real experience with Decree 219/2025/ND-CP, here are some important things to know for success:

About the health check:

  • Right now, everything is online, so they won’t accept health certificates with wrong information or handwritten changes
  • Your health certificate must clearly say: “Healthy enough to work” and your signature must match your passport signature
  • Yoga teachers must get health checks at approved medical centers. The system doesn’t automatically connect hospitals to the permit office yet, so you still need to include the health certificate in your papers

About the job code:

  • This is an important change in Decree 219/2025/ND-CP: If a yoga teacher applies as a technical worker, you must write “work field” according to Vietnam’s Level 3 Job List, not “job title” like before
  • Example:
    • The work field must be written exactly as “Health consultant” with code 3259.01 according to the current Level 3 job list
    • This is completely different from writing “yoga teacher” or “yoga instructor” like before. Businesses must look up the exact job code to avoid mistakes that could get the application rejected when sending through the National Public Service Portal

About processing time: Processing time starts when the office officially receives your papers, not when you send them to the Public Service Portal. This helps avoid confusion about deadlines.

About criminal record: You can choose to let the office automatically get your criminal record or get it yourself before sending your application. We recommend getting it yourself so you can control the timing and avoid delays.

These changes make the process simpler and more transparent, but you still need to prepare carefully to avoid mistakes.

Understanding these changes in Decree 219/2025/ND-CP can be tricky. Wrong information can lead to rejection. VisaNow helps over 1,000 businesses every year and stays updated on all legal changes. FAQ about Vietnam work permits for yoga teachers

Can yoga teachers qualify for work permit exemptions in Vietnam?

No, yoga teachers are not typically eligible for work permit exemptions. Under current Vietnamese regulations, yoga teachers must obtain a proper work permit before legal employment. While certain professionals (like intra-company transferees in specific sectors or short-term workers) may qualify for exemptions, yoga instructors generally don’t fall into these categories unless they meet very specific criteria outlined in Article 7 of Decree 152/2020/NĐ-CP.

Does my yoga certification from my home country qualify me as an expert in Vietnam?

Yes, but only if paired with proper experience documentation. International yoga certifications alone aren’t sufficient for work permit approval. You must either have a university degree plus three years of relevant teaching experience, or five years of verified teaching experience with your certification. Your documents must be consular legalized, translated to Vietnamese, and properly certified to meet Vietnamese requirements.

Can I start teaching while my work permit application is being processed?

No, working before receiving your approved work permit is illegal in Vietnam. Both employers and foreign workers face heavy penalties for violations. Fines for foreign workers range from VND 15-25 million, and employers may face fines of VND 30-75 million depending on the number of unauthorized workers. Additionally, foreign workers may face deportation for working without proper documentation.
