Vietnam visa requirements

Do foreigners need a visa for Vietnam?

Foreign nationals from countries eligible for visa exemption to Vietnam may enter the country without obtaining a visa under unilateral or bilateral agreements.

Foreign nationals not holding passports from countries eligible for visa exemption must apply for a visa on a Vietnamese diplomatic mission or through Vietnam’s e-visa system to enter and stay in the country. Depending on the purpose and duration of stay, different visa types are available to meet the needs of applicants.

Vietnam’s visa exemption policy

Vietnam currently grants visa exemptions to 22 countries, including South Korea, Japan, Russia, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Belarus, Brunei, Myanmar, the Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Laos.

In addition to the policies for countries eligible for visa exemption, as stipulated in Article 10 of Decree No. 82/2015/ND-CP, individuals of Vietnamese origin, as well as those who have a spouse, parents, or children who are Vietnamese citizens, are eligible for long-term visa exemption.

These individuals can enter Vietnam without a visa for up to 5 years. For each entry, they are allowed a maximum stay of 180 days. This regulation aims to encourage overseas Vietnamese people to return to their homeland, fostering reconnection with the Vietnamese community and strengthening family ties and national relations.
